Thanks to two "Pokémon GO" players, an elderly lab named Stanley will live to see another day.
Oh, and they helped prevent a house from burning down, too.
According to a story in The Detroit News, a soon-to-be-married couple, Patrick Awdish and Katelyn Zack, were out for a walk after a long day of scouting wedding venues in the Detroit area. They, like most other people in their mid-20s, were playing the augmented reality game "Pokémon GO." Unlike most people, their game came to a grinding halt when they spotted a fire on a home's deck in Royal Oak, a Detroit suburb.
Firefighters arrived on scene shortly after they placed a call to 911, putting out the relatively small fire. Soon thereafter, it was discovered that the sole inhabitant of the home at the time was Stanley, a 10-year-old lab.
In thanking the couple, Randall Bishop, the home's owner, went so far as to credit the game itself for its role in saving his home and furry family member.
“If it wasn’t for that game and the people who were playing it, I absolutely would not have a house or a dog right now,” Bishop said.
Zack somewhat downplayed the importance of the app, saying they "were just in the right place at the right time."
Either way, we're happy to see "Pokémon GO" doesn't always have to end in car accidents and falling off cliffs.
